recently I came across a app for my Android phone called waze www.waze.com. the website has the following to say about it
"What are waze drivers building? Waze is a social mobile application providing free turn-by-turn navigation based on the live conditions of the road. 100% powered by users, the more you drive, the better it gets. Join the community of drivers in your area today! drivers in your area today!"
so is this a replacement to your sat nav?
well at the moment in the UK not many roads have been mapped so its use is very limited.
as you are driving around with the app running you can select the road roller to map new roads, then after what appears to be 24 hours the new road appears on the map. you can also use the waze website to amend the new map but this is not very straight forward which might put people of.
for the major routes I can see a use as it will automatically post congestion if you go slow for a period of time, this is all dependant on you having a data connection at the time, it will also tweet this congestion if you so wish.
the bigger question is will I keep it on my phone or get rid of it, if its the latter and everyone who uses it does the same will it ever become useful? only time will tell on that one.
